Nepal Canada Export Import - Entrepreneurs should know

Since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1965 Canada and Nepal have been enjoying longstanding bilateral relationships including various social development assistance programs and bilateral trade including export import. Compare to other countries Canadian export import to and from Nepal is minimal however there is a room to grow business between Nepal and Canada.

During the period 2009 to 2013, total export import ranged from $17 million to $23 million per year where as bilateral merchandise trade between Canada and our neighboring country India totaled approximately $5.2 billion in 2011 alone.

According to Statistics Canada, top Canadian exports to Nepal include peas, lentils, optical media, turbo-propellers, rangefinders, gas turbines, newsprint and machines & mechanical appliances.

Top imports from Nepal include Carpet, Christmas articles, textile garments and apparels.

Canada has also funded modest development assistance projects in developing countries including Nepal through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). The CFLI is a program that supports small projects proposed and implemented by local NGOs and other grassroots organizations such as village councils, cooperatives and women’s groups.
